Happy weekend everyone! I am happy to introduce four more wonderful small businesses with products ranging from nature-derived skincare products to yoni steaming, jewelry and art.
Let’s get started!
Let me tell you my tale of woe when it comes to adult acne. I had perfectly decent skin until I turned 23, and it’s as if someone turned on a light switch, and boom! My skin freaked out. I literally tried everything to get rid of my acne- glycolic peels, harsh washes, anything I could get my hands on. Retinoid gel was my last ditch effort, and it finally worked while destroying the oil barrier of my skin. Yes, my acne was gone, but my face was so dry and flaky and sad. When I came across bioclarity on Instagram, I really wanted to give it a shot. Bioclarity is a three part acne system that doesn’t compromise the health of yo
ur skin, as it is naturally derived. It’s clinically proven to treat acne, and their botanical ingredients are soothing to the skin. In fact, the third step of the system is the Restore Gel which is actually green due to their trademarked Floralux- a naturally derived chlorophyll. The Restore Gel soothes your face after using the acne spot treatment to prevent what the retinoid gel did to me- the flaky, peeling sadness. The best part is a month’s worth supply for all three products is only $29- which is half the price of a single product I could buy at Sephora which may or may not even help. If you suffer from acne but you’re also a health nut like me, give BioClarity a shot.
Shakti Diva is a company that makes products for women based on the Ayurvedic way. You might be thinking, what is Ayurveda? According to the Shakti Diva website’s definition, Ayurveda is “‘the science of life,’ built upon the understanding of the five elements (space, air, fire, water and earth). When these elements combine they create three governing principles, or doshas. These are Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire with a little water) and Kapha (earth and water). Everything may be categorized according to its proportion of the doshas, including our mind-body (and skin) type. Radiant beauty and health is considered to be an outer reflection of the proper inner balance of the three doshas for our particular constitution.”
Shakti Diva kindly sent me a variety of items, including 2 yoni steams, natural deodorant, and a Kali face mask. Let’s start with a yoni steam, because you may be asking yourself “What is a yoni and why are we steaming it?” Good question! Yoni is the Sanskrit word for vulva/vagina. Why are we steaming it? When you do a yoni steam, it allows the steam and essential oils in the blend to penetrate the skin and work it’s magic inside the body. Shakti Diva sent me two blends of their yoni steams, and I loved each equally. It felt so refreshing and I will say with 100% honesty, my moon blood/cycle was less painful this time around when I used the steams beforehand. The deodorant she kindly sent was wonderful, smelling of lemongrass and was so refreshing for the summer…and the Kali mask! The Kali mask was amazing. My face felt so smooth after using it, as it had a blend of essential oils that made my face feel so much more hydrated. My skin was so dry before hand and when I washed it off it felt so supple and smooth. Check out Shakti Diva’s website to try any of these wonderful products at a wonderful price.
All Things Om
All Things Om is shop with a wide variety of items, ranging from jewelry to knickknacks to home products, all ranging in the same theme of spirituality, yoga, or chakras. All items are either in hand or handmade, and inspected before being shipped to you: which sets this shop apart from mass production shops, and insures the quality of your items and insures your happiness with the products you purchase. I collaborated with All Things Om, and the owner generously sent me a variety of products: two necklaces, an adorable yogi figurine, mala beads, and a lava bead diffuser bracelet. I immediately put on the tree chakra necklace and loved how well it was made! It had a heavy feel to it which made me feel like it was really quality made, with quality materials. The stones in the necklace were quality as well, and I happily wore the necklace for a whole week without switching it out! My favorite item though? The diffuser bracelet! I’ve heard of the lava beads before and thought they were cool, and I was so happy to try one out! I dabbed a drop of Wild Orange essential oil, and a drop of peppermint, and it smelled heavenly. The smell last literally 4 whole days before I had to reapply. Not to mention-the customer service of the owner and her sweetness was unmatched.
Amanda Shafran is an artist living on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, dabbling in yoga, mixed media arts, and international theatre design. According to Shafran’s website “In November 2013, Amanda was diagnosed with the central nervous system disease
Fibromyalgia and began to navigate the realities of housing an artistic spirit within a hyper-sensitized central nervous system of a bodily structure. Experiences along the bumpy road of self -care and healing led Amanda to the science of Yoga, for which she completed her first teacher training at ISHTA Yoga in Spring 2015. These healing experiences also inspired Amanda to draw and paint for its own sake for the very first time, creating a constantly evolving collection of drawings and paintings entitled FibroFigures, first shown as Fascia-Figures at Flow Physical Therapy in Novemeber 2014. These images explore the way our physical bodies and ever changing minds process sensation and emotion.”
Shafran so kindly sent me a beautiful pair of black tourmaline earrings, and an absolutely gorgeous piece of artwork. Im not sure if Amanda intuitively knew that tourmaline is my favorite stone or not, but as soon as I received them I put them right on! I love having the healing energy of stones so close to my body, so the earrings were perfect for me. The art piece that Amanda made and sent to me was so stunning, and so full of talent, I purchased a frame immediately and hung it up. I highly recommend that you check out her gallery on her website to see what I mean about her talent in art and creating!
