For Crystal Monday, I wanted to focus on black tourmaline. Over the weekend, my husband, kids and I ventured east of our home to Carefree, Arizona. Carefree is a cute, tucked away, western town on the outskirts of Phoenix. And where you can find a western town, you can find a crystal shop. The one we found, though, was magnificent. I can’t even put into words the beautiful things they had there. They had gigantic, expensive crystals like I have never seen before. Needless to say, I was in love. And I made that known, so much that the woman offered me a job, that I am sad I cannot accept! On top of it,ย I cannot throw down thousands upon thousands, so I had to limit myself to a budget of under $15, and of course the universe sent me exactly what I needed. A beautiful, deep black nugget of tourmaline.

I feel most people are deterred from purchasing a deep, dark stone such as black tourmaline- but for me, I am automatically drawn dark, mysProcessed with VSCO with c1 presetterious stones over the vibrantly colorful ones. Something about their eery nature draws me in, like a magnet. Maybe it’s the mystery surrounding it, or the feeling of deep protection it brings.

History and uses of Black Tourmaline:

Black Tourmaline has been used throughout the ages by magicians and shamans alike. It has been found useful for ritual work, where a shaman will create a circle using eight tumbled pieces of tourmaline for protection. It is also beneficial for scrying, and used to point in the direction of an offender. Using black tourmaline in any form of meditation or ritual work will remove the clouds of unclear thoughts or ideas, as well as provide grounding and stability for your meditation practice. Black tourmaline is one of the few stones that heals on all levels- ย mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual planes- which provides an immense amount of grounding and protection.

When black tourmaline is worn, it is powerful. As I mentioned, it is a powerful protector from negative energy, as well as psychic attack. It does not only protect the wearer from the attack, it actually sends that negative energy back to the person who sent it. Since we are in constant contact with other people on a daily basis, it would be very beneficial to have a piece of tourmaline to wear on our person- as our energies may not always jive with someone else’s, this will help keep us stabile in our own vibrations.

Black tourmaline is also pyroelectric,ย meaning that it generates electricity when heated. If you were to rub a piece of tourmaline in your hands until hot, it would store an electric charge. It is very useful for releasing negative ions into the air, which is beneficial for our health. Tourmaline also strengthens the immune system, heart and adrenal glands. On an emotional level, tourmaline is perfect for defending against panic attacks, cleansing the mind of negative thoughts, anger and low self esteem.

When used in chakra balancing and healing, tourmaline is used to balance the root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, in the area of the perineum. The root chakra governs the feelings of “I am”. The feelings that surround survival and our basic needs. When our root chakra is unbalanced, it can display itself in many ways including exhaustion, lethargy and depression. Using black tourmaline on the base of the spine, or lower belly, while in a meditation will help bring back a balance to the chakra. In turn, this allows the other chakras to begin to balance and rotate on a more even, healthy level.

Black tourmaline is one of my absolute favorites. In fact, I have a piece I will be gifting a friend here soon. On a last note, remember: when a crystal has served it’s purpose for you, it is very important to cleanse and clear it, charge it, and pass it along. Crystals aren’t meant for hoarding and displaying only- they are meant to move through hands and allowing their energy to heal others.

Light and Love.

I like tourmaline, although I don’t have many dark stones, I feel it has a strong protective vibe that I am drawn to. Like obsidian – I love snowflake and the coloured ones but I do find black can be a bit overwhelming…๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’Ž

I’ve been slowly researching crystals and their healing energies, super overwhelming! But I came across this post a few weeks back and new that it was fate. I’ve recently been having anxiety over feeling unsafe about some certain issues in my life and have been searching high and low for remedies to ease that anxiety. When I read this post I knew I needed to find me a piece of black tourmaline. I live in the midwest and there aren’t many metaphysical shops around so I was having a hard time connecting with a piece that was meant to be mine. I went on vacation to the west coast last week and stopped into a metaphysical stand. Sadly there weren’t any black tourmaline crystals out on display. I asked the shop owner if she knew where I could find a piece and she pulled out the most beautiful piece of black tourmaline that she hadn’t put out yet. I was so excited!! I have been wearing it around my neck since the moment I purchased it and have felt such a relief in my anxiety knowing this crystal is protecting me! Please keep up with these posts as I find them very beneficial! Love your blog!!
